Shorter travel time in new Metro extensionsOnce the Metro Line 1 opens on Wednesday, travel time from the Shenzhen Railway Station to Shenzhen International Airport will only take around 68 minutes and only costs 9 yuan. The train will run from 6:30 am until 11 pm with an interval of seven minutes per departure in off peak hours and four minutes during rush hours.

Travel time going to the airport is usually two hours by bus, 50 minutes by taxi. Riders usually pay 100 yuan for taxi fare and 25 yuan for the bus. From the Grand Theater and Windows of the World can transfer to Line 3 for Lao Jie and Coco Park Stations.  Passengers can then choose Line 4 to go to the Exhibition Center o Line 5 to Qianhai Bay and Bao’an Central stations. Stations staff will be randomly checking passengers luggage since Line 1 will be connecting to the airport, and all luggage will be check during the celebration of the Universiade games.

Opening the five new extensions will bring the total length of the Metro to 178 kilometers. Once operational the 5 Metro lines will be transporting around two million commuters a day. People will start to change their commuting habits since it will be cheaper to take the Metro lines than taking their own cars or riding the taxis.
