Green Vehicles to Serve as Transportation for Universiade
New energy vehicles are set to hit the roads just in time for the Universiade games. Sources said that 2,011 vehicles will be ready for use and half of them will be used exclusively to serve the games.
The electric vehicles that will be used consist of hybrid buses, double decker buses, electric buses, minibuses, taxis and fuel cell buses. The large number of these vehicles on the road is said to surpass the numbers of alternative energy-based transport for the Beijing Olympics and the Shanghai Expo.
A total of 1,649 new-energy buses will service 77 routes, which include 21 routes that are specially assigned for the games. These green bus routes will cover 44 venues of the games and routes will be supported with 50 charging stations in strategic locations around the city. During their use throughout the games, the vehicles will undergo regular inspection using technical standards formed by the city government.
To promote the use of green vehicles through franchising, the city government introduced a system by private capital and professional operations. This way the government can achieve sustainable commercial operation of new energy vehicles. Shenzhen automakers Wuzhoulong Motors and BYD will be supplying the vehicles needed.
As one of the pilot cities that promotes the use of new energy vehicles, Shenzhen has already set the standard for the first carbon account platform foe these kinds of vehicles. The city also hopes that the Universiade will serve as a model for using new energy vehicles as a form of transportation for other cities in the fututre.
