The Most Memorable Trip-Grade 11 Trip to Xing’an, Guilin

The Most Memorable Trip-Grade 11 Trip to Xing’an, Guilin The 11th graders just experienced their most memorable trip ever to Xing’an, a beautiful village of Guilin. During the 4 days, the students had a busy schedule. They went on hiking (including night hiking & blindfold hiking), kayaking, played leadership games, swimming, visiting local family, etc. However, what makes the trip special is the community service. The students went to a local elementary school and spent 3 mornings with the local school kids. It’s amazing that in about 10 hours, students from two schools built a strong bonding with each other!

Everybody felt they learned a lot. The feeling is so strong that each 11th grader wrote a letter to the 10th graders to share their thoughts in the hope that they could pass the friendship and connections along. These are quotes from the letters.

These kids don’t have what we have and they don’t know what we know but they have so much more that they can teach you guys, because that’s what happened during our visit here. Keep the kids happy and enjoy, the bond we created was very intense and strong. It isn’t something we can just ignore. – Tony Kim

The experience from this trip was priceless and is almost indescribable… it turned out to be a life changing week. it was more than helping a couple of local kids, we built a bridge of connections and learned from each other. – Sok Hwan Maeng

Quotes from the principal from Huajiang Elementary School:

… our children have learned so much from this activity! They have greater interest in learning English, because they realize the necessity and they are eager to learn it from the bottom of their heart. Some kids even said they will work harder so that in the future they can come to your school to study … This is actually much more important than the knowledge they learned for years… I was also impressed with and touched by your happy faces. I felt your pure happiness when you guys were sitting on the ground and playing with our kids. It’s like we are their old friends without any gap or distance between us. I and our kids  expect our next visit! – Li Ping
