Old Chinese performance gains younger audience
These students and workers together started to perform and study the century old art of Kunqu. The Kunqu is a form of Chinese opera originated in the Ming Dynasty way back 14th century. The Kunqu is characterized by its combination of musical performances and choreographed routine. Nowadays more younger generations are preferring to listen to Kunqu and practicing yoga since it’s more fashionable among them.
During 1990s, Kunqu almost disappeared when they started to lose the interest of the people and there were no new plays and performance shown to the public. In 2001 the Kunqu Opera was added to the UNESCO Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity list as a way to let the art form get recognized again.
