Adjustments on Regulations Limits the Use of Electric Bicycles on Roads
Instead of the plans to ban outright, the use of electric bicycles, Shenzhen will issue regulations that will restrict the use of the bikes on roads. Industries such as postal, packages and food deliveries can apply for a special permit to use the bikes on the road.
Traffic police can restrict the use of the electric bicycles on the road especially during peak or rush hours where the chance for accidents is higher. Standards will be implemented that only electric bicycles weighing no more than 40 kilos with a maximum speed of 20 kilometers are allowed on the road.
Those caught violating the regulations will be banned from the roads and riders failing to meet the standards and are caught speeding will be severely punished. The law was drafted for a second reading after a public poll. Residents were against the total ban of the electric bicycles since it will affect commuters and business that rely heavily on the cheap transportation.
Still the drafted law will only have minor changes and the ban on using the electric bicycles as taxis still remains.
