Public Officials Participate in Volunteer Works
The number of blue vested government workers that are part of the volunteer services have reached 180,000 since it was formed in January. The volunteers usually lend a hand during the weekends and include 2,625 high level officials.
Party chief Wang Rong and Mayor Xu Qin are participating in the program, and by July 2 they had already helped in 76 activities, ranging from helping traffic police in maintaining order to warning people about littering and cutting queues.
The program was planned to maintain traffic order and to boost the city’s image way ahead of the Universiade. Volunteers also gave suggestions that might help visitors during the games, especially the correction of road signs as well as modifying bus routes.
Public servants were benefiting from the voluntary services by taking their offices to the streets, collecting public opinion and trying to better understand the social problems of their city. During a poll conducted, 97 percent of the respondents were impressed with what the public official were doing and are giving positive feedback.
