Rewards Offered for Every Life Rescued
Rewards of up to two million yuan have been offered to rescuers for every worker that the can rescue alive in a collapsed mine in Guangxi last week. Although heavy rains have been preventing the rescuers from doing their work, all efforts are still being made.
There are 19 workers trapped underground in Heshan City, with only six of them having a high chance of survival. The rewards have been put forward as an incentive to the rescue workers that are doing their best to reach the trapped workers.
So far only three bodies have been discovered, with the victims’ families having already signed compensation agreements with the Guangxi Heshan Coal Mining Co., which operates the mine. Families will be getting compensation amounts of 400,000 to 600,000 yuan.
Rescuers are also hard at work trying to save the lives of 23 miners that are also trapped in a different coalmine in Guizhou. The coal mine was flooded recently due to heavy rains. China’s coalmines are notorious for having poor safety and the government is hard at work trying to resolve the problem.
