SUSTC appoints university council officials
The South University of Science and Technology appointed their officials in its first council meeting last Friday, with Shenzhen mayor Xu Qin as its first chairman. Other members of the council includes city vice party chief Wang Suiming, Vice Mayor Wu Yihuan, vice director of the provincial bureau Wei Zhonglin plus several other city government officials.
Creating the council was considered the most important step in drafting the university’s education reform. The council will be given the rights to appoint and dismiss the university’s presidents and top officials. The council is also set to review the university’s regulations, financial reports, working methods and development plans. The council will have at least two meeting in a year in accordance to the university’s regulations.
Last Friday and Saturday’s meeting the council reviewed and approved the council’s regulations, the standards of selecting vice presidents and drafting university’s regulations. Professor Tan Zheng as appointed vice president of the uniersivy duringthe meeting. Other members include president and CEO of Ping’An of China, Ma Mingzhe. BYD Auto President Wang Chuanfu. OCT president Ren Kelei, president of SUSTC Zhu Qingshi, the founder of Hong Kong University of Sceince and Technology Ng Chia-wei and Beijing Normal University president Zhong Binglin.
Lecturers from Hong Kong were already recruited during the end of the month, plus seven other are joining the university in the next two months. So far the university has received more than 8,000 applications from different parts of the world after a recruitment campaign was launched last year.
