Chinese Internet Users the World’s Largest
The online population in China is the largest in the world at 485 million users, a 6 percent increase since the end of 2010. In a recent survey by China Internet Network Information Center reported that there were 27.7 million users since December of last year.
This shows that almost a third of the country’s 1.3 billion people are logged online. The popular twitter like service, Weibo saw the number of users increase from 63.11 million to 195 million by the end of last year. The service has been hailed by Chinese ‘netizens’ as a great means of mass expression. Weibo has the fastest growing number of service users of online platforms in the country.
The number of people using the web through their mobile phones also increased by an additional 14.94 million users in just six months, bringing the total to 318 million. Users were also using the Internet as a marketplace since it easy to sell things and purchase products over the Internet.
Online shopper numbers reached 172.66 million, an increase of 7.6 percent from last year.
