More than 12,000 People Expected to Attend the Universiade
One hundred and fifty two delegations from around the world confirmed that they would be participating in the upcoming Universiade Games in Shenzhen with more than 12,000 people in attendance. There will be 8,000 athletes and 4,000 team officials coming in for the Universiade with China, Russia and Japan leading the with the most number of athletes participating and competing in all the 24 compulsory sports.
Journalist from 323 media organizations local and abroad already registered to cover the games. Game schedules are already drawn up and can be viewed in the official Website for the Universiade www.sz2011.org. Based on the schedule, the first gold medal will be awarded on August 13 to either winner of the men’s 10 kilometer water event or the women’s 120 kilometer cycling event. There will be 306 gold medals to be awarded to winners of the various events in the Universiade.
The organizing committee has also set up a test center that will be conducting dope tests. The committee signed an agreement with the China Anti-Doping Agency in Beijing that sent 144 officials to facilitate the testing. All of the officials involved have either participated in the Beijing Olympics and Guangzhou Asian Games.
