Shenzhen to Promote Traditional Chinese Medical Clinics in Communities

Shenzhen to promote traditional Chinese Medicine clinics in communitiesTraditional Chinese medicine clinics found in communities will be promoted by the city. The number of TCM clinics has been rising and is expected to reach 900 clinics by 2015. Every community has one TCM clinic with at least one qualified TCM doctor.

The TCM doctors will provide professional health care and  give advice to  community residents on how to live a healthy lifestyle. In a regulation that was recently approved last May, doctors with five years of clinical experience are qualified to open their own clinics in communities with a population of more than 15,000 residents.

Doctors holding certificates of chief physicians and five years of clinical experience can open clinics in communities that have a population of 30,000 residents. These community clinics will  eventually be playing the same role as regular clinics that offer treatment of ailments and common diseases.

Recently, medical expenses have been reduced in city hospitals and other public medical institutions. Statistics show that average cost for a patient in the outpatient department was 127 yuan in the first six months of this year and patients in the inpatient department pay 6,846 yuan. 607 community health centers are provide basic care to 14 million people with an average cost of 49 yuan per patient.
