A Day Out Fishing In Shenzhen With ‘The Fish Whisperer’
On Sunday we went to Xili Hu reservoir for a spot of fishing and a relaxing day in the sun. We were lucky enough to be accompanied by wild man hunter ‘Patrick Van Rensburg’. At the reservoir we rented four fishing rods, lines and bait and a lake side bungalow for the day. Patrick had clearly been swimming with the fish the night before as he was reeling in fish quicker than we could down cans of tsingtao! By lunch time our holding net was full and I hadn’t even caught a bite!
My time was to come though. I looked up from my beer to see my rod jerking, yes a fish was nibbling. As i turned to shout Patrick, Lauren and Dee I heard a pinging sound and looked around to see my rod fly into the lake and a fish gleefully swimming away with it. ‘Jump in’ some one say’s. Not a chance. Then like crocodile Dundee or some other famous wild man Patrick jumps into a canoe and paddles after my rod. Cheered on by his friends and the locals he reached the rod and pulled it onto the canoe and then proceeded to land the fish while sat in the canoe! Great work and a highlight of our day. I reminded Patrick as it was my rod the fish was technically mine.
Take a taxi to Xili Hu from Futian for around 50rmb.
The total cost for 4 rods, lines, bait, bungalow and Chinese dinner was 500rmb so a great day out for next to nothing between four or five of you. Enjoy the photos.
