Private Kindergartens to Receive Subsidies

Private Kindergartens to receive subsidiesPrivate kindergartens are expecting to receive subsidies that will allow them to enroll pre-school children and possibly reduce any family expenses for pre-school education.

In a draft that was announced by the city’s education bureau, the subsidies will be paid according to the number of children with Shenzhen hukou and those parents holding resident cards and are paying social security. Currently, the draft is waiting the city government’s approval.

As of 2010 there were 1,052 kindergartens in Shenzhen, 59 are public kindergartens while the remaining are private kindergartens. By offering subsidies to private kindergartens, these will greatly reduce costs in the kindergartens, increase teachers’ salaries and improve the services and facilities in the kindergartens.

The bureau is also planning to include pre-school education in the public service and the bureau will be adding more preferential policies to be extended to families that are having financial difficulties. Supervision in kindergartens and how they handle their finances will be tightened in the future to prevent any unnecessary expenses.
