Visiting Athletes Impressed with the Universiade Village
Team officials and athletes have finally settled in at the Universiade Village, which is their home for the next few weeks in Shenzhen. The village has been occupied by more that 30 delegations since it opened last Thursday.
National flags were hoisted in the village square making it the highlight and showing an image of a global village. Athletes from different countries were also displaying their flags on the balconies in their dormitories where they are staying.
Athletes were impressed with the facilities in the village, some were even saying that the village is better and larger than the previous Universiade facilities that they have been too. They were also impressed that there were volunteers in every corner in the village, ready to lend a hand.
Participants of the games also took their time to visit souvenir stores inside the village that were selling various souvenirs related to the games, such as t-shirts, commemorative coins, and other items that bear the game mascot UU. One store said that visitors mostly bought badges and t-shirts that bear the mascot’s face.
A local band staged a concert at the village square last night, and is just one of a series of performances that will be held in the village every night throughout the duration of the Universiade games.
