Shenzhen Universiade Starts Today
Athletes from different parts of the world will be playing an important role in the opening ceremony for the Universiade games today at 8 pm at the Shenzhen Bay Stadium. The athletes will be part of a round stage in the stadium that allows interactions between the athletes and the performers that are staging cultural performances.
Eighty percent of the performers are college students and will be inviting the athletes to come up on stage and perform with them so that they can be part of the ceremony. The two hour opening ceremony will consist of flag raising, the official athletes entry, and the swearing in of the officials, athletes and judges.
This will be the first time that a ceremony is held without fireworks but organizers will be stunning spectators with new technology by showing off color laser projection and line screen images. Part of the ceremony’s highlight is the unveiling of a huge Shenzhen-made LED wall named Gate of World.
The LED wall or Gate of World will be opened three times to allow the athletes to enter, this will mark as the official declaration and lighting of the game flames on a tower beside the game stadium. The flame tower will be the new landmark for the city and officials say that the ceremony will proceed as scheduled. In case of light rain there will be enough raincoats to be given away. If ever heavier rain will occur the ceremony will then be transferred inside the stadium.
