Shenzhen Plans to Set Records at Universiade
Shenzhen is setting its eyes on getting the most number of records in the Universiade games’ history. There will be a total of 24 sports in the games, in addition to the newly added chess and aerobics to the lineup. Eleven optional sports will also be competed in over the course of the games.
There will be 306 gold medals to be awarded with 45 of the gold medals to be awarded on August 18 alone. By Wednesday almost 12,000 participants from 152 countries started arriving to take part in the games. Using various developed information systems that include GMS, GRS, event management systems and event result systems reflect the high level of information. 4G networks will also be available in major competition venues in the city.
There are also unconfirmed reports that the athlete that will be lighting the main flame during the opening ceremony will be Liu Xiang, a champion hurdler in the Olympics and who also won a gold medal during the 2001 Beijing Universiade. For residents that are planning to stay home and catch the opening ceremony of the games on TV, it will be broadcast live at 8 pm on SZTV and CCTV.
Residents should also take note that Shenzhen airport will be closed for four hours from 7 pm to 11 pm today and on August 23, the closing ceremony of the Universiade.
