Universiade Village facilities impressed foreign athletes
Universiade athletes are enjoying the various energy-saving and environmentally friendly facilities of the Universaide Village. Efforts made by the village organizers were highly praised by foreign athletes, especially the bathroom that was designed to be placed on balconies.
Other athletes found it strange to use a bathroom that was placed on a balcony, some never even heard of it. Until they saw the bathrooms help in saving energy. The bathroom uses water heated by solar energy that is available 24 hours and the bathrooms have better ventilation because of the location. Water absorbing bricks are paved around the village that help prevent slippage and floods. The water that is collected by the bricks is then used to water the surrounding flowers and replenishes groundwater.
A automatic garbage collection system is also being used in the village that controls and collects around 6 tons of garbage a day. The system removes odors emitted by the garbage and also eliminates secondary pollution emitted by the garbage during transportation. The garbage is transported through a system of underground pipes to a collection center.
