Young People Encouraged to Do More Physical Activity
Tian Ye, the director general of China Institute of Sports Science, said that parents must give importance to their children to be involved in more sports activities and participating in physical activities. Tian said this remarks during one of the keynote speeches in the FISU conference that ended yesterday.
The FISU conference attracted more than 350 scholars and officials that are experts in sports topics, and in the past four days have exchanged ideas and thoughts on how to improve the university sports area. Getting people to participate into sports is one effective way of improving physical fitness in a person, however there are a lot of factors that stop them from engaging in sports and other activities.
A lot of young people in China are overburdened with schoolwork and as a result, have little spare time to exercise. The spare time they do have is usually spent watching TV, surfing the net, playing video games or sleeping. Also there are few sports facilities available that meet the demands of these young people.
Tian said that the city should do more planning that will enable cities and communities to cultivate an atmosphere that interests of the younger generations will be toward sports and physical activities. Communities should make use of public and private facilities and should encourage people to participate and get at least an hour’s exercise everyday.
