Super Computer to Run Cloud Computing Trials
A Spokesperson for the Shenzhen Science, Technology, Industry, Trade and Information Commission said that the National Supercomputing center will test cloud computing and a high performance computing system.
The center houses the second fastest computer in China and is also considered the largest science and technology project that the city will be embarking upon. The center is also the key science and technology facility located in Guangdong Province.
The center, established in 2009, was cosponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Science and the Shenzhen government. The computer has the capability of computing at 1,000 trillion functions per second. The project is estimated to cost 800 million yuan.
The project will be divided into four platforms that will provide technical support for meteorology, finance and other public information industries. To provide innovative computing and data processing solutions for companies. And to provide essential support for advanced computing.
In 2010 the nebulae computer in the center was ranked second by the Top software and served as the base for technological exchange and international cooperation within the South China region.
