Universiade Flame Tower to be Made Into City Landmark
The flame tower memorial will start construction a few days after the games and will become one of Shenzhen’s urban landmark sculptures. The 26 meter flame tower is located by the shore in Shenzhen Bay, the tower was designed with boxes that resembled books with each book represented and showing details of past Universiade games.
Lu Ruifeng, Shenzhen’s Executive Vice Mayor together with officials from the city bureau of urban planning and land resources visited the tower to discuss its plans and feasibility of constructing a memorial tower square. The city bureau has drafted plans and the design of the planned memorial square and will be submitting the plans to the city government website for public solicitations and comments.
