China Takes Home Gold for Women’s Soccer
China came on top and took home the gold when they defeated Japan in an overtime game 2-1 in women’s soccer for the first time in 18 years. In the early set of the game, Japan was in the lead and was able to score a point when one of Japanese player shot the ball in between two of the Chinese players.
During the 55th minute of the game Japan’s goalkeeper made an error in passing, therefore allowing one of the Chinese players to score a goal. China was able to score the winning shot when the Chinese captain tangled with the Japanese goalkeeper allowing her fellow player to kick the winning ball through the goal.
Winning the gold was significant for the Chinese women’s soccer team, since they have fought hard for it. The Chinese soccer team first appeared in the 1993 Universiade games in the United States where they also took home the gold by defeating United States 2-1. But since then they were not able to catch the gold until now.
