Successful Summer Universiade Ends

A successful Summer Universiade ended with great memoriesThe 26th Shenzhen Summer Universiade games came to a successful conclusion with new records made and old records broken. The memory of the games will be in the memories of the Chinese people and their foreign visitors as well.

During the games closing ceremony at Windows of the World was filled with a lot of activities with all the athletes participating in the performances. The ceremony was highlighted with LED special effects and performances separated into three chapters.

The first chapter called Happy Gathering had performers dressed in costumes of the 152 countries that were involved in the games, then performers threw souvenirs sachets, embroidered silk balls, masks, Chinese knots and handkerchiefs to spectators and athletes. The second chapter saw a combination of traditional dances from the Tibetan, Irish and American performers, which ignited the passion of the viewers while watching the performances on huge LED screens.

FISU president Claude-Louis Gallien said even with the closing of the 26th Universiade in Shenzhen, the flames of the games will not end and the passion will be passed to the city of Kazan, the host of the next Universiade games. After the declaration of the closing of the Universiade games, the FISU flag was handed to Kazan, the next host for the games. Kazan also staged a ten minute performance which acted as an invitation to the world for the next games in 2013. Followed by the extinguishing of the games flame that marked the ending of the first major international sporting event in the city.
