Hertz to Add Electric Vehicles to their Fleet
Car rental giant Hertz, will collaborate with Shenzhen based automaker BYD using electric vehicles as rental cars. In an agreement signed last Friday by the two companies, BYD e6 vehicles will be added to the list of rentals.
This will be the first electric vehicle that will be used by Hertz in the car rental industry in China. The first couple of units of the e6 vehicles will be available in the next few days. Hertz president Michel Taride said that the company welcomes the use of the new energy vehicles in Shenzhen and will soon introduce the electric vehicles in their branches in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin.
Hertz have great expectations with the new energy rentals in China, as using the electric cars is much cheaper. Before it would cost 80 yuan for a regular car to run up to 100 kilometers, while it would only cost 20 yuan to fully charge an electric vehicle that can be used for nine hours. Hertz first opened their car rental center at the Transport hub in Shenzhen last month and there will be two BYD e6 cars available for rental there soon.
