Honorary Citizenship Awarded to Foreigners

Honorary citizenship awarded to foreignersForeigners from the United States, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Australia and Russia were granted Shenzhen honorary citizenship. Among them were Kenneth E. Behring, the World Wheelchair Foundation Founder, President of Fuji Xerox in Shenzhen, Toshihiko Okaji and the mayor of Kwangyang in South Korea, Lee Sung Woong.

There were 48 other people that were granted honorary citizenship because of their contributions to the city’s development. Half of them were Hong Kong residents, and this was the first time honorary citizenship was granted to eight Taiwanese.

Around 120 people have been granted honorary citizenship from 1994, 1995 and 1998 because of their large contributions to the city’s development. This year contributions to the city’s urban reconstruction, environmental protection and public welfare were the determining factors for the honorary citizenship.
