Li Na Hopes to Play Better with New Coach and Trainer
China’s Li Na became a heroine in her homeland when she became the first Grand Slam Champion to hail from Asia, but since then she has been struggling on the court, losing a couple major games to different players.
Li lost on the second round at the Wimbledon and just recently lost on the first round of the US open. Her only back-to-back match wins have been at New Haven after Roland Garros. Li said that she wanted to do well after the Roland Garros but she can’t get her bearing, she said she felt that tennis was to tough for her and was starting to lose confidence.
This is a far cry from what we saw during the Australian open, were she was full of confidence in making her triumphant breakthrough when she won. Her victory was seen by over 116 million Chinese people making her part of the country’s sporting greats.
Now Li said that every time she plays, other players are raising their level, however Li said she is not afraid but feels like a big target that everybody wants to defeat. Li even fired her husband as her coach and started training with Denmark’s Micheal Mortensen. Li hopes that her training with Mortensen will bring her game back to its top form.
