People Rushing to Buy Moon Cakes in Preparation for the Mid Autumn Festival
With the Mid Autumn Festival drawing near, people are starting to buy moon cakes in large quantities, mostly in Hong Kong stores on Zhongying Street. The street is known as the border street since it is one street with two systems.
This means that one half of the street belongs to Mainland China and the other half is considered the Hong Kong side. The ‘made in Hong Kong’ moon cakes are some of the best sellers on the street and are fast gaining popularity with Shenzhen’s residents because of their affordable prices and taste. Residents also said that a box of moon cakes costs a lot cheaper than in Shenzhen and buyers can even buy in bulk and collect the moon cakes in Shenzhen.
Prices of moon cakes are slowly increasing on the mainland while on the border street, prices have only increased by a small fraction.
