City’s Health Department Approves Opening of Four TCM Clinics
The city health department has approved the opening of four community TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) clinics. The traditional Chinese medicine clinics will provide health consultation, sell medicines and can treat most common diseases and illnesses.
The clinics will have the same responsibilities as community health centers, as they were approved by the commission they can also provide health care by giving out dietary plans and body massages. Since June, doctors and organizations were sending in applications to open clinics and consultation centers
Regulations stated that in each community TCM clinic must have one qualified TCM doctor. Qualified doctors with five years of experience can open clinics in a community with 15,000 residents. Doctors that are certified chief physicians and have 5 years experience can open clinics in a community with 30,000 residents.
Most of the clinic’s clients are residents from Hong Kong that are living in Shenzhen, and because the population of Hong Kong is less than Shenzhen, demand for TCM is large in the city. In 2006 the city began a pilot program in one community by placing a traditional Chinese medicine clinic in Heshuntang.
