Hospitals Begin Lowering Prices of Prescribed Medicines

Hospitals started lowering prices of prescribed medicinesThe mandatory price cut for drugs was officially launched last Thursday and hospitals have already begun to lower the prices of their drugs. 82 medicines will be under the mandatory price cut of around 14 percent.

Price reduction also applies to at least 20 types of medicines in hospitals and most of these drugs can’t be bought without a prescription and are seldom found in drugstores. Shenzhen No. 1 People’s Hospital already lowered prices of 37 medicines sold in the pharmacy, Shenzhen Children’s Hospital also lowered prices of 18 medicines. Even with the price cut of commonly used medicines, its still not the best way to control the high price of drugs since most of the prescribed medications are not sold in drug stores.

Companies producing the medicines are complaining that the price cuts will force them to stop producing cheap medication, and will affect the quality of some medicines. Retail prices for medicines were already cut more than 20 times, still the people are burdened with health care and reducing medicine prices is not considered an effective solution.
