Medical Institutions Prescribe 2 Billion Yuan Worth of Anitbiotics
Approximately 2 billion yuan worth of antibiotics have been prescribed by local medical institutions accounting for roughly thirty percent of all drug use for last year. Eighty percent of the prescribed drugs from 2002 until the first half of 2011 were antibiotics and half of the adverse drug reactions from this period also involved antibiotics.
By now, the city has introduced strict management standards of the use of antibiotics clinical use in hospitals. The supply of antibiotics will be placed under close supervision and the media has been asked to help in the supervision of the use of antibiotics in medical institutions.
During a meeting last week at the Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital, it was announced that they have already selected 50 varieties of antibiotics that will be used in their hospital under supervision. The Shenzhen Children’s Hospital have also reduced the number of prescriptions for antibiotics in their hospital by nearly 40 percent.
