Vocational Courses to Receive Tuition Exemption
Vocational schools found around the city will be removing tuition fees for students that are taking their majors in short supply and in demand. The tuition exemption will cover as many as 4,000 students taking majors such as jewelry appraisal and animation.
Shenzhen Bolun Vocational High School principal Wang Le, said that the jewelry appraisal course is popular among the students and it generally costs 3,000 yuan per year. Two hundred students at the school taking the course will be covered by the tuition exemption. Another school, Shenzhen Huaqiang Vocational High School has already exempted 200 of their students that are taking animation from any tuition fees.
The tuition fee exemption will cover 18 vocational junior and senior high schools and is said to benefit around 4,000 students. The director for the vocational and continuing education department of the city education bureau, said the majors that will benefit from the exemptions are courses in animation, mechanical and electrical integration, auto repairs and marketing, computer networking and jewelry appraisal.
If all goes well, in the next five years the city will achieve its goal to have free vocational education for its residents.
