Foundation to Help Restore Ancient Costumes

Foundation to help restore ancient costumesA Swiss foundation has worked hand-in-hand with the North China Museum and have successfully restored 14 silk relics unearthed from tombs dating back almost a thousand years.

The Inner Mongolia Museum and Switzerland based Abegg Foundation, which is known for its fabric restoration and research, have been conducting research and repairing ancient silk costumes that were found in tombs.

The silk costumes were found in 1991 in one of nine tombs that were constructed during the Liao Dynasty. The Dynasty was also known as the Khitan Empire and since the tombs were located in Horqin Right Wing Middle Banner of Inner Mongolia, the silk customes are belived to belong to Khitan nobles.

The foundation, together with the museum, will do further research on the silk fabrics to determine the authenticity of the costumes and to gather more information on the ancient culture of the Liao Dynasty.
