Yan Tian to Shekou – Cross City Cycle for Charity

What is it?

An ongoing project that will use cycling, group rides, and long-distance bike treks as a medium to raise funds for at least one and likely multiple projects undertaken by Captivating International. The first iteration of this project will comprise a group fun ride around Shenzhen this Fall (09.17.2011, Saturday)that will seek to raise funds for a local Captivating project.

Who’s involved?

The directors of this project are two local high school students, Andrew Zhang and Sherly Yuan, with the support of Captivating International. But anyone reading this is encouraged to get involved!

When will it take place?

09.18, DameishaàShekou

4:00PM (tentative depending on rain)

How will the event work?

Riders will convene at Dameisha Wish Tower beach park at 4PM and depart for Shekou. At an average speed of 20km/hour, the entire ride will take approximately 2.5 hours.

The riding group will stay together for the entire duration of the trip, which is marked out in the map below, and will be available on the Internet for participants. This route was planned and suggested by Qixingzhe, Shenzhen’s largest professional cycling retail store.

Closing Ceremony

At 8PM that night, we will hold a closing ceremony and charity concert at Atmosphere bar & restaurant in The Peninsula. There will be an admission charge for all non-participants, all of which will be donated to Captivating International. This ceremony will feature performances by local Tibetan musicians.

How can people donate?

Though lump sum donations, provided directly to Captivating, are more than welcome.

There are two ways for people to donate:

1.  One sponsor donate RMB5000 for each girl in poverty.

2.  Donors can pledge a certain amount of money per kilometer traveled by their chosen participant. (For example, the trip being approximately 50km, a donation of 10RMB per kilometer would constitute a 500RMB donation.)

What is the fund raising target?

Our goal is to raise RMB50,000 – enough to provide a year’s tuition for 10 Tibet girls lacking of the opportunities for education.
