Middle School Spirit!
The start of this academic year has seen the continued growth of the SIS Middle School identity and spirit. Our successful (and fun) Middle School Beach Retreat gave students the opportunity to bond with their fellow Advisory members, across grade level and as a Middle School. Listening to their Advisory Chants the following day resonating around the amphitheater gave a clear indication of the group spirit that had occurred. Seeing the pride in the faces of the students as they looked up and saw their Advisory flags hanging from the ceiling in the Drama Room during our last assembly again evidenced how important these opportunities are for students to create group identity.
Following on from this all students had the opportunity to stand in the elections for the Middle School Student Council (Stuco). Not only does Stuco provide excellent leadership opportunities, it also enables students to be a part of organizing activities that promote unity and fosters a sense of spirit amongst all our students and community.
The candidates were extremely serious about the election, producing quality campaigns and passionate speeches. Candidates spoke about Middle School values, ESLRS and a desire to listen and lead the student body. Our new President is Charlie Yeoh, supported by the new Vice-President Sara Pistono. I look forward to working with them and the newly elected Stuco team and watch them continue to contribute to the amazing MS Spirit we have here at SIS.
