Park Designs for Flame Tower Subject for Public Opinion
Two designs for a memorial park that will be constructed around the Universiade flame tower are the subject of a public opinion poll in which around 80 percent of the respondents were against the relocation of the tower to the shores of Shenzhen Bay.
Respondents replied to inquires over the Internet and phone, said that Shenzhen was the youngest city to host and stage such an international sporting event, and the city should respect the legacy of the games by leaving the tower in the place where the games were held. Respondents also said that hopes were high that the park will be created as a venue for sports, cultural and other activities for residents to enjoy.
Other respondents also agreed that the park should become a multi-functional public venue. The preliminary design showed that the park square will include the Universiade flame tower and will be connected to the Spring Cocoon with an elevated footbridge constructed over Shahe Road West.
