New Incineration Plant to be Built in Shenzhen
The city is planning to build the largest waste incineration plant that can process 5,000 tons of garbage in a day. Shenzhen is now looking for a location to build the plant and hopes to minimize any negative impact on neighboring areas.
Shenzhen’s vice mayor Lu Ruifeng has already been to the waste treatment plant in the Pingshan New Zone, and said that most of the current garbage plants are no longer able to process any more of the city’s garbage. The temporary Yahu landfill in Pingshan is one of the biggest waste processing plants with an area of almost 80,000 square meters.
The landfill in Pingshan began operations in the last quarter of 2009 with a capacity of 800,000 cubic meters. With the city receiving complaints from the neighboring city Huizhou, the city has also upgraded several environmental measures that made the emissions less toxic and more measures will be taken to further improve the environment in the area.
