Extracurricular Training Centers to Increase Fees
Training centers in Shenzhen are starting to increase their fees by 40 percent in their extracurricular programs in hopes to offset labor costs and rent. With increasing demand in these type of programs which is designed for primary and middle school students has helped push training costs up to 30 percent as well.
A local training center specializing in giving training programs to primary and middle school students has already increased their fee from 120 yuan to 150 yuan per class. Even with the price hike, class length was extended by half an hour. Another training center increased their prices where every student now taking classes from them have to add 20 yuan per program. Because of high rent and labor costs, training centers are forced to increase their prices. Staff in these centers said that the hike was necessary since they also need to increase the salaries of teachers in order to retain them. Some centers are also upgrading their programs and introducing more high end programs to attract more trainees into their centers.
Even with the higher costs parents still send the children to their training centers, since they believe that the training can help their children get better grades in school. Trainers working at the center advise parents to choose the proper program that suits their children’s needs.
