Technology for Learning (TFL)
For many students here at Bayside, the laptop has replaced the pen or pencil as a learning tool. The next step for our students, is not just to trade tools, but to transform their learning by using technology to be more creative, collaborative and communicative.
Technology has the capacity to expand our students capacity and to allow them to learn in ways which were not possible in the past. Recently, Mr. Thomas Galvez, Ms. Claire Wachowiak and Ms. Robyn Lynch accompanied me to the Shanghai 2.011 workshop where we learned in similar ways to our students—through technology.
We were able to learn what other schools are doing with technology and to share our own students work. I was proud to see that in a great many ways, SIS students and teachers are leading the way. Our electronic portfolios are well constructed and purposeful, our children are well informed of digital citizenship and in general our students are making excellent use of technology to participate in debate and research.
In the coming months we will continue our work with Technology for Learning by mapping information literacy benchmarks into our existing units of study. We are also pleased to be hosting leading technology consultant, Kim Cofino, who will visit our school in December to work with our faculty.
We are looking forward to furthering our own life long learning with technology so that we in turn may help our students to explore new approaches to their learning with the tools available to them in the modern classroom.

Technology integration at SIS Bayside, is in the capable hands of Ms. Kimberley Curtis (Middle School) and Mr. Thomas Galvez (High School).
