More traffic measures added to improve traffic conditions
The city will be adding more 120,000 spaces for night parking and about 30,000 spots for 24 hour parking at roadsides, with this additions Shenzhen will also be increasing the parking fees in commercial areas.
This is one of the 25 measures that the city is undertaking to further help easing traffic congestion in the city. The measures was announced yesterday and is now subject for public opinion. The city will have fixed quota parking fees introduced that will used for official vehicles of government agencies and institutions, once the vehicles will exceed their limit the drivers will then have to pay the fees with their own money.
More parking lots will also be build around Metro Stations in hopes that it will reduce the number of vehicles in the downtown areas. Old residential quarters will be converted into multi story parking lots. The city have already discussed on how to implement administrative, economic and technological measures that will control the steady increase of private cars in the city and finding ways to encourage residents to take public transport.
The transportation commission have also introduces a transport strategy, that will build a faster transit network by connecting the Metro and bus services.
