City Government to Subsidize Tourism College
A subsidy of 5 million yuan a year will be given by the city government to help the development of the Tourism College of Jinan University in Shenzhen for the next five years. In an agreement signed last Monday, the teachers in the college will still have the same salary and insurance as the teachers of Shenzhen University Town.
Jinan University, currently based in Guangzhou will be moving their tourism faculty to Shenzhen college and will offer bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D degrees. In the next five years the number of bachelor degree candidates is estimated to reach 1,000. The university will be offering 20 percent of its enrollment quotas to Shenzhen residents.
Also in the agreement, the Shenzhen OCT Group will be providing their hotels, golf courses and theme parks to serve as college facilities for free. The agreement will also have an impact on the college development since it will also be participating in education and research programs found in Shenzhen.
Jinan University will be expanding its tourism college by giving their junior students basic courses in Guangzhou. Senior students will get the chance to develop their training and professional courses in Shenzhen. This move is well supported by the Shenzhen Government and the OCT group.
