Foreign Workers to Enjoy Social Security Benefits
A new regulation will take effect this Saturday that will allow foreigners working in Shenzhen to be covered by social security. The regulations were finally approved by the State Council, saying that foreigners holding employment permits and residency permits will be covered by five types of insurance.
Basic endowment insurance, work injury insurance, basic medical insurance, maternity insurance and unemployment insurance are the five basic insurances that foreign workers will enjoy. Those employers hiring foreign workers must register with the social security within thirty days after obtaining residency permits.
The social security fund will be paid by the employer and employee in accordance with provisions of the social security system. Also, the regulation states that any personal social security can be inherited by law in case of death. Now foreigners can enjoy the benefits of having social security, easing the pressure of finding ways to pay bills when they are ill, unemployed or injured. Any organizations or institutions that fail to provide social security for their employees will be fined according to law.
So far, the city’s labor authority has issued 10,700 working permits to foreigners, doubling the previous number from last year.
