Two Hospitals Begin Issuing Health Cards to Patients
The Shenzhen People’s Hospital together with the Shenzhen Maternal and Child Care Hospital recently began issuing health cards for residents. The health card holders can set up accounts wherein they can pay their medical fee in accordance with the city’s health commission. The card will be integrated with the cardholders bankcards, allowing payments to be instantaneous.
With an initial deposit of 100 yuan, residents can apply at the hospital self service terminals. The cards can be used to pay bills 1,000 yuan and below. To apply for a card that can pay higher amounts applicants can visit the Bank of China to apply for their cards there.
The health cards can be very helpful to people that are not covered or don’t have social security. Those who already have insurance can use their social security cards as health cards at any public hospitals. The health cards can also store any of the holder’s health information, which includes diagnosis, treatment and medications. By the end of this year the Ministry of Health will be done setting up electronic health files for all patients holding a health card.
Starting next year all local hospitals will be providing health cards to their residents and patients.
