Central Kitchen to Launch Online Ordering System
Residents can now order cheap fresh fruits online and can pick up their order at the nearest van that sells vegetables and farm produce in their communities. Soon more products will be offered through the internet.
The online ordering service is part of the Central Kitchen program that is organized by the city government wherein the vans in their program sell vegetables and other produce at up to 30 percent cheaper than in retail markets. The government is also planning to build community stores that will sell cheap and fresh farm produce.
Since the launch there are 150 vans operating in communities, and by the end of this month 300 vans will be working in 900 communities and each van will be in two communities each day. Van operators are also reporting that there are cases that their staff are being harassed by employees of nearby markets because of their low prices.
Since residents are now buying vegetables at the vans, this has affected sales in some supermarkets. To further avoid competition, the vans will be parked in areas that are far from supermarkets or other retail stores and away from main roads as well. The only problem facing these van operators is how the government will find solutions to protect their rights.
