Shenzhen to Increase Yacht Tourism
The Central Government has given its approval to Shenzhen to create a model city to help develop the scientific development of a maritime economy. Shenzhen will then build around 2,500 berths for yachts. According to the Shenzhen Oceanic Administration 900 berths will be built in the West and 1,600 in the East.
In a forum hosted by the Shenzhen Bay Marina Club, there was an increase in demand in Shenzhen for leisure tourism yacht visits from Hong Kong and Macao yacht clubs during weekends and holidays, but there are no specific laws that govern yacht management and no designated ports for yachts.
Once the city determines the policy on yacht tourism, the city will then apply to the Central Government to create a yacht tourism ports in eastern Dameisha and western Shenzhen Bay areas. The city will also build a yacht industrial park and yacht free trade zone, although this are still in the planning stages, the city hopes it will stimulate yacht tourism between Shenzhen, Macao and Hong Kong.
Currently the city has seven registered yacht clubs with three of the clubs opening with mooring for yachts.
