AMIS Middle School Honor Boys Choir
Forty-three middle school boys from eight international schools arrived last Wednesday along with their music directors, and met up with their SIS host families. On Thursday, bright and early, these boys, combined with 15 singers from SIS met in the choir room to begin rehearsals to prepare for Saturday night’s epic concert.
Even though the boys had all been working on the music with their own directors for weeks, the real magic started in that first rehearsal with Mr. Keith Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery teaches choir at the American School in London. Rehearsals went on all day Thursday and all day Friday, concluding with a “teaser concert” assembly for the SIS Bayside student body. The honor choir performed five of their ten pieces for an audience of mesmerized students and faculty.
On Saturday, after morning rehearsals and lunch, the boys were taken to Jingshan pool for some fun in the sun before returning to Bayside for the final dress rehearsal. Before the concert, Mr. Montgomery discussed with the boys where they would go from here. What would they take back with them to their own choirs? What would they remember the most?
I hope that our 15 SIS boys will remember this experience forever. To come together as 58 singers from around the world and create beautiful music together is a powerful thing. I know that SIS has been blessed by hosting this event. A big thanks goes to all who helped to make it possible.
