Geckos Invade The Pearl River Delta
This weekend was full of activities. The AMIS Choir held at Bayside, a 9th grade water balloon and bake sale fundraiser at Jingshan, and the Pearl River Delta volleyball tournament held at QSI.
With 8 teams in both the boys and girls divisions, each team played three round-robin games during the day of play. Both teams ended with a 2-1 record after this round robin play; the girls were narrowly bested by QSI in a tense, three-set match, and the boys losing to the eventual champions CGIS.
Seeded second in both divisions, the Geckos played for the bronze late in the afternoon.
The boys team, competing against Utahloy International School, were unlucky to not come away with a victory, and were edged out in two very close sets.
The lady Geckos lost the first set in their bronze-medal game, but rallied in both of the next two sets to emerge victorious and claim third place in a very competitive girls draw.
This tournament will prove to be a very important warm-up for the end-of-season ACAMIS tournament to be held later this weekend. Let’s hope that our HS volleyball teams continue to represent the school with honor while bringing back some hardware from Xiamen.
