Overseas Schools Encouraged to Set Up Campuses in Shenzhen
Hong Kong senior high schools and kindergartens are being encouraged to set up campuses in Shenzhen. The Hong Kong schools can then collaborate with the city’s local education organizations to provide high-end education to local and overseas students. Local schools in the city are also being encouraged to set up campuses overseas as well.
According to Shenzhen’s plan, the city will build 120 new kindergartens by 2013, thus providing around 30,000 more places for kindergartners. The city government is spending 100 million yuan on their preschool education program that will coincide with the estimated increase in the number of kindergarten school places. Shenzhen University will also pilot an enrollment program for postgraduate students.
Other developments will include more subsidies given to private schools and awards for high quality private schools that have good facilities. Also public junior high schools and primary schools will be free for non-hukou students, who can then proceed to the city’s senior high schools after meeting specific requirements.
