Jobs’ Biography Sold Out in Just a Few Hours
A Chinese version of Steve Jobs’ biography sold out in just a few hours during its launch last week in book stores. The book, titled Steve Jobs went on sale in 20 cities in China the same time it went on sale in US bookstores, less than three weeks after Jobs’ passing.
The book sold well in 30 stores in 21 cities and most of the books were sold out on the first day. Apple is popular in China with fans lining up in front of stores just to purchase its latest products. One bookstore in Shanghai had people lining up for hours and the 1,000 copies of Jobs biography sold out just before midday. Shenzhen Book City CBD opened an hour earlier to meet the demand of fans that wanted to buy the book, which sold out in ten hours.
The biography paints a candid portrait of a technological visionary, who could be brutal and at the same time, brilliant. The book was written by former managing editor for Time magazine, Walter Isaacson and is the result of 40 interviews conducted by Isaacson with Jobs and over 100 family members, friends, colleagues and business rivals.
Initially set to be released in 2012, the biography publication was moved to November and then October after the news of Jobs’ death on October 5th.
