Student magazine part of top 5 must read list
The Nirvana Weekly published by Shenzhen Middle School is part of the top 5 recommended list for students and teachers. The magazine was first published in 2009, written, prepared and edited by SMS students with a circulation of 500.
The magazine became the most popular must read publication for many students, it also attract attention from national mainstream media. The Chinese News Weekly just recently wrote a story about the student magazine.
Luo Yilong the magazine’s first editor in chief said that the school had a magazine called SMS daily, but most of the stories were speeches from principals and other school officials and that made the magazine looked lika and official magazine for school officials. Most students in the school wanted a magazine that tell their stories and thoughts and because of these Luo decided to publish a magazine by himself.
After doing research plus a series of discussions among students, the first issue of the magazine came out in September 2009 covering aspects such as Focus, Culture, People and Opinion. Their stories was focused on issues that students like to hear and cared about. Topics are brought up by the magazine and a platform is formed for students to discuss the issues that relates to their lives.
