Tencent to Construct New Building on Reclaimed Land
Considered one of China’s largest value added internet, telecom and mobile services providers, Tencent has started the construction of an office building on reclaimed land near the sea. The building can be located at the intersection of Baishi Road and Binhai Boulevard just southwest of Shenzhen high tech park.
Said to cost 1.8 billion yuan, the project will include a 50 story south tower and a 41 story north tower. The new building is said to be three times bigger than the company’s existing official building found on Shennan Boulevard just opposite Shenzhen University. Set to be finished by 2016, the building with be equipped with facilities for animation, search engines and mobile internet. It will also serve as the research base for the company’s animation and mobile internet program.
As the business has expanded , Tencent has had to rent out offices for its 15,000 employees nationwide since its existing office can only house 4,000 employees. Once the new building is finished, it will be the center of all of Tencent’s global operations.
