A Week to Celebrate Books

A week to celebrate booksBooks have been central to so many peoples’ lives in many parts of the world for a very long time.  Much has been said that is fitting for Book Week and worth sharing.  Following are just a few quotes:

“To sit alone in the lamplight with a book spread out before you, and hold intimate converse with people of unseen generations – such is a pleasure beyond compare.”~ Kenko Yoshida

“I find television to be very educating.Every time somebody turns on the TV, I go into the other room and read a book.” ~ Groucho Marx

“I suggest that the only books that influence us are those for which we are ready, and which have gone a little farther down our particular path than we have yet got ourselves.” ~ E.M. Forster

“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” ~ Jacqueline Kennedy

“The wise person reads both books and life itself.”~ Lin Yutang

This week and really throughout the year, we want to engage students in the pleasure of reading. We particularly pursue the love of books and it makes sense that our libraries lead the way.  Whether it is bound print on paper or a Kindle or iPad, there is something wonderful about the power of a book to transport and transform.   That’s what we hope our students will experience this week and all of their lives.
